TUNE IN TIME successfully launched with two shows / competitions in April. Brave musical theater writers Britt Bonney, Erik Jareth Ransom, Julia Meinwald, Garth Kravits, Claire Fornarola and one of the champions from the April 2014 run of TUNE IN TIME, David Ingber, will step up to the musical plate on June 25, to take on the challenge of writing a song from a musical whose title is, literally, picked from a hat in the style determined by a spin of The Dreaded Genre Wheel. Will it be a historical epic? Something á la Rodgers & Hammerstein? Experimental? Or even [insert name of large theme-park owning mega-corporation-turned-Broadway-megalopolis here]? Oh . . . and they have just 20 minutes to do it.
On July 1, Natalie Lovejoy, Kevin Hammonds, Pamela Grayson, William TN Hall, Matt Patrick Walsh and Alexander Oyen are scheduled to jump in. Celebrity judges for JUNE 25 include playwright/librettist Marc Acito (Allegiance, Room with a View, How I Paid for College), and actress/singer/director Diane Phelan (Pan Asian Rep)!.
TUNE IN TIME is produced by MAC Songwriting Award-winner Amy Engelhardt, (formerly of Grammy-nominated vocal band, The Bobs) and Heather Shields, co-founder of While We Wait Productions. “Tune in Time is a great combination of theater experience and performance instinct, but in this show it’s the writers, not the actors who will dare to live at the lip of their creativity,” says Engelhardt. “It’s serious fun; you’ve got to trust your instincts and commit 300 percent. Often, they come up with entire plots to justify the songs they write. TUNE IN TIME is unpredictable, egoless and above all, funny. I can’t wait to hear what comes out of these minds and fingers!”
TUNE IN TIME is hosted by cabaret uberhost Emily McNamara (The Chocolate Show, NEWSical, Getting the Band Back Together). Acclaimed musical director Nate Buccieri (Brandy’s, The Duplex, Don’t Tell Mama) will be on the keys.
But the true stars of the evening are the brains of the writers. Can they write a TUNE IN TIME?
