Marjorie Johnson – who played the title role in Colman Domingo’s DOT during its premiere engagement at the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s HUMANA FESTIVAL earlier this year – will return to the role when DOT has its New York premiere at Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.). Multiple Tony Award winner Susan Stroman directs. Previews for DOT begin on February 4, 2016 prior to opening February 23, with performances continuing through March 13. For more information, visit www.vineyardtheatre.org

Leslie Uggams, who had previously been announced to play the title role in The Vineyard production of DOT, received an offer to play a recurring role on a television series and regretfully needed to withdraw.

In addition to creating the role of DOT, Ms. Johnson appeared in Katori Hall’s HOODOO LOVE at Cherry Lane Theatre and won the Audelco Award for her portrayal of Winnie Mandela in M: THE MANDELA SAGA at Theater for the New City. Elsewhere Off-Broadway she appeared in Pearl Theatre’s THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA, and on Broadway she was in the cast of THE LITTLE FOXES.

Also announced for the cast of DOT is Finnerty Steeves, whose Broadway and Off-Broadway credits include BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, LOST IN YONKERS and ALMOST MAINE.

Rounding out the cast of DOT are the previously announced Sharon Washington, Stephen Conrad Moore, Libya V. Pugh, Colin Hanlon and Michael Rosen.

DOT is the story of family matriarch Dotty, whose three adult children gather for the holidays with more than exchanging gifts on their minds. As Dotty struggles to navigate life with dementia, her children fight to balance care for their mother and care for themselves.

DOT is the newest play by actor/author Colman Domingo, whose play A BOY AND HIS SOUL about growing up amidst the funk and soul sounds of Philly in the 70’s, was a hit at The Vineyard in 2009. Mr. Domingo is best-known as an actor on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in film with a string of memorable roles in PASSING STRANGE, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, SELMA, THE BUTLER and LINCOLN.
