Chita Rivera
Chita Rivera has postponed her engagement at the Café Carlyle, originally scheduled for January 12-23 to April 19-30 due to an injury she sustained over the Christmas holiday. Following a fall, it was discovered that she has a pelvic stress fracture.
The 10-time Tony Award nominee and Broadway icon is known for never missing a performance be it on Broadway or in concert.
Rivera said: “I’m so sorry that I must postpone these dates at the Café Carlyle and disappoint my fans, but we will reschedule and I’ll be back!”
Chita Rivera’s career is highlighted by starring roles in Bye Bye Birdie, The Rink (Tony Award), Chicago, Jerry’s Girls, Kiss of the Spider Woman (Tony Award), The Visit and the original Broadway casts of Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, Seventh Heaven and Mr. Wonderful. Additionally, she has toured in Born Yesterday, The Rose Tattoo, Call Me Madam, Threepenny Opera, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, Zorba and Can-Can with The Rockettes. At The Carlyle, Chita Rivera will be joined by music director Michael Croiter (percussion and guitar), associate music director Michael Patrick Walker (piano), Jim Donica (bass) and Dan Willis (reeds).
Performances will take place Tuesday – Friday at 8:45pm; and Saturday at 8:45pm & 10:45pm. Reservations made by phone at 212.744.1600 are $90 ($130 for premium seating, $60 for bar seating) Tuesday – Thursday and Saturday late shows; $100 ($140 for premium seating, $70 for bar seating) on Friday and Saturday. Reservations made online at www.ticketweb.com are $100 ($140 for premium seating) Tuesday – Thursday and Saturday late shows; $110 ($150 for premium seating) on Friday and Saturday. Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street, at Madison Avenue).
Chita was awarded The Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2009. She received the coveted Kennedy Center Honor in Washington, DC in 2002 and is the first Hispanic woman ever chosen to receive the award. In May, 2013, she was appointed to a special Kennedy Center Honors Advisory Committee. Chita’s current solo album is entitled And Now I Swing. WNET/Thirteen recently aired the Great Performances special Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin’ To Do, a retrospective on her extraordinary life and career nationally on PBS.
